Wireless Remote Trigger for Canon DSLRs

I recently just purchased a cheap, made in China, Wireless remote for my Canon 5d Mk2 from Amazon. The Aputure Pro Coworker Wireless Remote Trigger is listed on Amazon for $142 but available now for $30. Not bad since the cost of one from Hong Kong on eBay is listed for nearly $80 + $15 s/h and a wait time of nearly 2weeks (coming from Hong Kong). I was able to purchase it for $40 with expedited shipping which is not too bad.

After opening the box I was surprised to find it to even come with batteries which is a plus. It seems very handy, before reading any instructions I was able to get it up and running and shooting from very far away. In the manual it mentions that the wireless remote has a range of 140 feet, which is not too bad for a $40 wireless remote. Another good thing about this is that if you do not want to use the wireless remote, you can you the receiver as a trigger without any use of batteries. It’s a pretty handy little gadget for your camera bag that doesn’t hurt your wallet too much. Though it doesn’t have any timed shutter release it is still a good wireless remote which you can use from about 140 feet away.

I will give it a proper test this weekend as I shoot my uncles wedding in which I am also a groomsman in so this will be handy as I walk down the isle.

CheesyCam: Video DSLR DIYs

Eric Y., a friend of mine, mentioned this blog to me. He said that he had done a few video gigs with him and also mentioned that he had a lot of good DIYs. Aside from some of the great DIYs that he has done, he also finds a lot of equipment for the aspiring videographer (VDSLR) and photographer. He lists a lot of gear he finds on eBay, purchases them and gives out little reviews. And for the most part, a lot of the products he purchases work out very well. Check the site out and you might find something you have been looking for. I know I did.

Because of this site, I will now finish up my ideas and drawings for my DSLR rigs/cages, as well as a linear slider. Cheesy Cam is a very helpful and useful site.

In the future I will be posting more of what I create for shooting.

RIDE iMiNUSD

Like I have previously posted. I took some before pictures of Darin’s bike before we transformed it.

It went from this:

To This:

It was a collaborative effort by all of us at iMD. Mark and Darin with the great ideas, JP for the original chain design, Matt, and of course myself for doing some of the arrangements with GraphTech, driving down to Daly City to pick it up and installing it on the bike. Overall it looks amazing. It’s crazier in person. Hopefully you will be able to see it in front of the shop in the coming weeks! And now… more pictures.

Borrow Lenses

As I have mentioned before, I am currently in the market for a new lens. I have tried out a bunch of Canon L series lenses, like the 70-200 f/2.8 L IS, 24-70 f/2.8L, 16-35 f/2.8 L, and many more. However I have yet to try any third party lenses. Next week I will be shooting my Uncle’s wedding and thought I might give BorrowLenses.com. I just put in my order to try out a third party 70-200 f/2.8 Lens. Though I have heard that one should choose Tokina or Tamron over Sigma, I would rather choose to try one out for myself.

Now both of these lenses are at a reasonable price compared to a Canon L listed at nearly 1800 for one with image stabilization and 1200 without, you can get a decent lens like the Tamron or Sigma for a fraction of the price. So in my recent order, I am going to rent the Tamron 70-200 for one week and see how it goes. Reasonable priced at $37 plus tax it came out to roughly $40 to rent the lens. Which is fair considering Adolph Gassers is much more just for a day. I will put another post up with how well the shots came out. Though reading through many reviews many have said that the Tamron does the job for a fraction of the price. Since I am not a pro-photographer yet. I just think this lens will serve me well until I can get more cash flow towards buying lenses and other gear.

Check back for an update on how well the lens works out for me, and check out BorrowLenses.com for all your photo needs. It’s a good place to rent a lens, flash, or body for something that you may not want to shell out just for one time use.

So last week Matt(SELFdizolve), posted how our pictures were posted on the Pake site. A photoshoot which we did a while back. I took a look at it and wasn’t posted on it. Though it didn’t bother me much, I found today a copy of the merry sales ad which had the picture of me as the cover. I then turned the page to see if they used any other photos, but to my surprise found the same picture posts again in the inside cover. Though I didn’t find any pictures of Matt or Nahn, it was cool that since I was left out on their website, that I did make it on the ad which was sent out to many dealers. Thanks pake.

Photo again

Lately, I’ve been thinking more about progressing in photography. I have left my lens collection as is for a while and now I feel I need to add a couple more lenses to my bag. Of course lens aren’t cheap. Especially for my 5d. But i can always dream right?

Right now I am looking for these lenses:
-Canon 24-70 f/2.8 L
-Canon 70-200 f/2.8 L IS
-Canon 16-35 f/2.8 L
-Canon 50 f/1.4 L or 35

Right now on Amazon I have found these lenses at their lowest for brand new. Which isn’t bad. I would still settle for a used lens but at the prices I am finding for a new one, it might not be a bad idea after all.

But if you or anyone you know is selling one of these lenses please let me know. I am trying to buy at least one of these lenses before I travel to the philippines this summer. I would definitely love to shoot some stuff out there.

If only i could win the lotto somehow.

Sharks do it in San Jose!

Marleau and Big Joe, come through again to take the series. Tonight I enjoyed watching the sharks fight against the Red Wings. Such a great game. The sharks looked alive from the very minute the puck dropped in the first period.

Finals here we come!

So I have not been able to blog in a while and I have a bit of catching up to do. But for now we will keep it simple. Last week I posted about how something was to be delivered by Friday. That package did arrive and on time too.

Well the:

Yes, I did get the iPad, and as a matter of fact I got the iPad 3G in the 16gb. Yes not so much space, but in order for me to afford the 3G i thought I might as well get the 16. Since I will not put too much music or movies on it.

Blog it

I am actually using it as we speak to type up this blog post. My thoughts on it thus far is that it’s pretty awesome. The keyboard in landscape mode is perfect. It is sized up exactly like the wireless keyboard from apple, spacing and all. The only difference is that there is different modes for numbers and punctuation marks. But if you have or have had an iPhone you would be pretty familiar with it. I can type like I do on a laptop or desktop and not have to search for letters and just type like I normally would, which is nice.

The screen size is decent. I currently own a net book and I think that the clarity and resolution of my iPad beats it in a heartbeat. Zooming in on iPad is a lot easier then it was on my net book. On top of that, it is actually legible and easy to read when you zoom in. Not like most computers where it gets all pixelated.

The overall design is amazing. It is light, compact, fast, and has a long battery life. The 3G option is convenient for going on road trips or vacations where I may not have access to any wifi connections. (which is why i chose to get the 3G model) The only problem so far that I have noticed is the lack of multi-tasking, which so happens to be in the works already with the apple iPhone and iPad os4.0 coming out in summer for the iPhone(3GS for multi tasking) and fall for the iPad. I will survive for now without it. Another downside is that there is not too many apps available yet for the iPad. Though you can still use iPhone apps the video quality is not as great since it has to be magnified. But there are apps coming out everyday so in no time there will be tons of apps for the iPad.

One app that I do love is an app from Zagg, called photo pad.

It is great because you can edit, crop, and rotate your images that you save. And for me, the screenshots that I have taken with my iPad. Once I was done editing my pics I then selected all of them in my photo library and emailed it to my flickr account. However at tine moment I did forget that I do have a wordpress app where you can edit, post, and upload images from.

So that’s it. It has come in, and thus far I have had a lot of fun with it. Aside from all the work I have been able to also do, I haven’t actually used my laptop since. The iPad is a great tool, and if you have yet to try one I suggest you get to the apple store and try one out for yourself.
