Memorial Day
Today I didn’t BBQ or anything but I did get to do a lot of things. Today being my day off spent some time in bed, and then had Lilian pick me up to go eat with her family at Chowking.
Pretty cool little strip mall area. They are getting a Goldilocks and everything so check it out. Pretty cool though that Seafood City (which I have never been to before) was filled with all Filipino foods and treats.

Wireless Remote Trigger for Canon DSLRs
I recently just purchased a cheap, made in China, Wireless remote for my Canon 5d Mk2 from Amazon. The Aputure Pro Coworker Wireless Remote Trigger is listed on Amazon for $142 but available now for $30. Not bad since the cost of one from Hong Kong on eBay is listed for nearly $80 + $15 s/h and a wait time of nearly 2weeks (coming from Hong Kong). I was able to purchase it for $40 with expedited shipping which is not too bad.
After opening the box I was surprised to find it to even come with batteries which is a plus. It seems very handy, before reading any instructions I was able to get it up and running and shooting from very far away. In the manual it mentions that the wireless remote has a range of 140 feet, which is not too bad for a $40 wireless remote. Another good thing about this is that if you do not want to use the wireless remote, you can you the receiver as a trigger without any use of batteries. It’s a pretty handy little gadget for your camera bag that doesn’t hurt your wallet too much. Though it doesn’t have any timed shutter release it is still a good wireless remote which you can use from about 140 feet away.
I will give it a proper test this weekend as I shoot my uncles wedding in which I am also a groomsman in so this will be handy as I walk down the isle.

CheesyCam: Video DSLR DIYs
Eric Y., a friend of mine, mentioned this blog to me. He said that he had done a few video gigs with him and also mentioned that he had a lot of good DIYs. Aside from some of the great DIYs that he has done, he also finds a lot of equipment for the aspiring videographer (VDSLR) and photographer. He lists a lot of gear he finds on eBay, purchases them and gives out little reviews. And for the most part, a lot of the products he purchases work out very well. Check the site out and you might find something you have been looking for. I know I did.
Because of this site, I will now finish up my ideas and drawings for my DSLR rigs/cages, as well as a linear slider. Cheesy Cam is a very helpful and useful site.
In the future I will be posting more of what I create for shooting.

It was a collaborative effort by all of us at iMD. Mark and Darin with the great ideas, JP for the original chain design, Matt, and of course myself for doing some of the arrangements with GraphTech, driving down to Daly City to pick it up and installing it on the bike. Overall it looks amazing. It’s crazier in person. Hopefully you will be able to see it in front of the shop in the coming weeks! And now… more pictures.

Borrow Lenses
As I have mentioned before, I am currently in the market for a new lens. I have tried out a bunch of Canon L series lenses, like the 70-200 f/2.8 L IS, 24-70 f/2.8L, 16-35 f/2.8 L, and many more. However I have yet to try any third party lenses. Next week I will be shooting my Uncle’s wedding and thought I might give BorrowLenses.com. I just put in my order to try out a third party 70-200 f/2.8 Lens. Though I have heard that one should choose Tokina or Tamron over Sigma, I would rather choose to try one out for myself.
Now both of these lenses are at a reasonable price compared to a Canon L listed at nearly 1800 for one with image stabilization and 1200 without, you can get a decent lens like the Tamron or Sigma for a fraction of the price. So in my recent order, I am going to rent the Tamron 70-200 for one week and see how it goes. Reasonable priced at $37 plus tax it came out to roughly $40 to rent the lens. Which is fair considering Adolph Gassers is much more just for a day. I will put another post up with how well the shots came out. Though reading through many reviews many have said that the Tamron does the job for a fraction of the price. Since I am not a pro-photographer yet. I just think this lens will serve me well until I can get more cash flow towards buying lenses and other gear.
