Redline Tuning Hood Struts

This is by far one of my favorite mods of the truck. I firmly believe that this is how the truck should have came from the factory. With my height compared to the stance of the truck it can be a little tough to get the hood open. Also I really just enjoy seeing it go up and down.

Parts used:
Redline Tuning Hood Strut Kit
Center Punch
Rivet gun

Install was pretty straight forward. I would advise watching this Youtube video here. I mention this because when I received the kit, the instructions were for a 2005 Tacoma. The struts and hardware however worked for both. When watching the video I would recommend paying attention to the measurements.

Measurement from top of hood latch:19″
Edge of hood to bracket: 2.25″

Frame/fender measurement: 12.5″

I would recommend using the center punch so that your bit doesn’t walk. Place a bit of electrical tape as a stopper so you don’t punch through your hood. After drilling the holes, apply a little paint to protect the steel from rusting. Using the hardware provided rivet everything in place. The rivets are going to be a little tough to crimp. If this is your first time using a rivet gun, take your time and make sure that the head of the gun is fully seated on the rivet. Keep pumping until the long piece breaks off. Push the gas struts onto the hardware and you are good to go.
